The difference between poetry, fiction and creative essay is the rules. When writing poetry there are no rules. You can write freely and present your work the way you want it. You make make your words tight and it represents something or someone getting tighter. When you write fiction, the rule is to be as creative and non formal. It makes people believe in whole other worlds. For example, Harry Potter is fiction. J.K Rowling created Harry Potter as a fiction character. He is not real and the world around him is not real. As I write my own poems and fiction stories, I can spot the difference. In my poems, I had to think about what I was writing. I was making sure I used the words to tell a visual story. It is similar to writing a fiction story. I wrote fiction to make the readers think about what was going on. In my creative essay, I have to use real things. Things that are non-fiction. I can not make up the story, I have to use its history and background. While you know its history and background you have to add a twist into it to make it interesting. You have to use your mind to creatively make something up without an spaceships or intergalactic wars. You have to use your imagination and make it true.
It is good to know the difference between the genres so people don't get confused. People will confuse fiction and non-fiction. If they know the difference, they wont have a rough time writing them. For example, I know that poetry can rhyme and fiction can not. The difference from my writings are the styles. My poems are short and the sentences are complete. In fiction my stories do not rhyme but have complete sentences in them.
