The difference between poetry, fiction and creative essay is the rules. When writing poetry there are no rules. You can write freely and present your work the way you want it. You make make your words tight and it represents something or someone getting tighter. When you write fiction, the rule is to be as creative and non formal. It makes people believe in whole other worlds. For example, Harry Potter is fiction. J.K Rowling created Harry Potter as a fiction character. He is not real and the world around him is not real. As I write my own poems and fiction stories, I can spot the difference. In my poems, I had to think about what I was writing. I was making sure I used the words to tell a visual story. It is similar to writing a fiction story. I wrote fiction to make the readers think about what was going on. In my creative essay, I have to use real things. Things that are non-fiction. I can not make up the story, I have to use its history and background. While you know its history an

Reflection #2

The story I chose to reflect on is "The Falling Girl", by Dino Buzzati. This story is about a girl who commits suicide from the top of her apartment buildings. As she was falling the wealthy people were questioning her as she fell. They also examined and commented on her. They were inviting her to their cocktail parties but she always refused. She refused because she said she was in a hurry. Someone had question on her on that and all she said was, "They're waiting for me down there." The time was suspended for a long time because once she passed by a couple, they saw an old lady. She was young and yet once she was at the bottom she was an old women. I found this story interesting because it shows the kind of world we live in. The language of the story isn't as serious as I thought it would be. It is more gentle and lovely. When you think of someone falling from a skyscraper, you think it'd be more serious. The author made it seem as if she was gently f
From my understanding, Long Soldier expresses her apologies to the Native Americans. She gives us an insight into her dual citizenship. She is both an American Citizen but also a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe. As I read her book, I feel she is expressing the Native Americans pain. She uses the words and history to voice out what they went through. Poetry is good to express stuff like this because of the wording. Poetry allows the person to put in their own views or opinions. The poet might be saying something and you yourself have to piece it together.  One poem that I found interesting was "38". I found this poem interesting because she talks about the 38 Dakota men that were hung.  Without money, store credit, or rights to hunt beyond their ten-mile tract of land, Dakota people began to starve The Dakota people were starving The Dakota people starved (Long Soldier 51) In this poem, Long Soldier talks about the promise the US treaty had with the Dakota Nation
